Easter Eggstravaganza!
Good morning, and Happy Easter Day! Looking for a last minute centerpiece, but one that's edible, too? Look no further than this naturally beautiful Eggstravaganza!
Laden with collection of lovely dyed, hard boiled eggs, this platter can be used as a centerpiece or as a decorative, edible touch to a buffet table.
Moss, curly twigs, and quail eggs help to complete the natural aesthetic. I added a few brown dots to my dyed eggs just to add a more realistic look.
What you'll need:
a dozen brown or white eggs (FYI: brown eggs produce muted and rich colors; white eggs produce bright and crisp colors. For this project, I used brown eggs.)
3 tea bags (black tea)
blue dye
water
vinegar (I used apple cider vinegar)
moss and twigs
platter
In two separate sauce pans, fill each with water until six eggs can easily be submerged under the waterline. In each sauce pan, pour a 1/4 cup of vinegar.
In one saucepan, add three tea bags to the water and vinegar solution. In the other saucepan, add 1 tsp. blue dye to the water and vinegar solution. Stir both solutions.
Add six eggs to each saucepan. On the stove, bring the water in each saucepan to a boil (10-15 minutes). Once the water has reached a boil, turn off heat completely. Let the eggs stand in the water for 2-3 hours. Remove the eggs, allowing them to dry before placing on moss and twigs in a platter. For added effect, dot the eggs with a brown marker or pen to give them "natural" brown spots.
Time to enjoy beautiful and delicious hard-boiled eggs for Easter!
These eggs (shown in the photo above) were dyed using only natural ingredients. Instead of blue dye, I used a cup of blueberries and the skins from a red onion. What is produced is a gorgeous, bluish gray hue to the eggs.
The color from these naturally dyed eggs scratched off while in the pan. I thought the effect was wonderful, so I added some marks of my own with a spoon and paper towel. After letting them dry, they are almost too lovely to eat!
Placed in a Japanese bowl, these eggs are proudly displayed on my foyer table beneath my
