Star Garland
I love making beautiful Christmas decorations that can be used year after year. This year, I made glittered star garlands that adorn my antique mirrors, trying to replicate the vintage glass chard ornaments I often find in antique stores. Make these shining stars for a garland, or use them as ornaments in your tree. DIY instructions are below, and may your home be starry and bright!
A star garland hangs on my Italian gilt mirror with a clam shell full of glittered pinecones and silver ornaments.
The star garland is a bright welcome to guests who walk through the front door.
These stars can also appear like falling snow...perfect for the holidays.
How to Make a Star Garland
What You'll Need:
Posterboard
Scissors
Craft glue
Painting brush
Glitter: I used Martha Stewart Glitter in White Gold
Wire: I used 22 gauge
Wire cutters
Hot glue gun
Thin ribbon: I used white ribbon
Step 1) Begin by cutting your own unique star template. On posterboard, trace the template and cut the stars out until you have the number you desire. Here, I have two sizes of stars.
Step 2) Thin down white craft glue with a little water. Using a brush, brush the glue mixture onto each star, front and back. Dip the star into the color glitter of your choosing. Let the stars dry.
Step 3) Cut a small piece of wire and forge small hooks (shaped like candy canes). Hot glue the small hooks onto the backs of each star.
Step 4) Swag a thin ribbon over a mirror or a Christmas tree, as many times as you would like. Here, I've swagged the ribbon four times. Hook each star over the ribbon until you have a beautiful design. Voila!
By glittering both sides of the stars, you get a reflection from the back that is just as lovely as the front. Hope you enjoyed!
